The US effort by government to prime the pump can be beneficial, unless misdirected by politics and corruption. The IT technology wave when viewed as a whole was probably a bad overall investment - but we profited from the winners changing our world - Intel, Microsoft and so on.Richard Wottrichhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12793905861998016619noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8359558.post-51228107124964064392009-11-27T06:23:36.539-06:002009-11-27T06:23:36.539-06:00If we think that after Pearl Harbor US put its mig...If we think that after Pearl Harbor US put its might industry into running the war - which undoubtedly did (course we need to mention the similar large Russian effort, put mostly into cheap production), then we have at least one precedent where the might of US industry can be put in the forefront of development (now China takes the place of the cheap producer). So why wouldn't we consider the current ecological step as a crucial point, and US can fully benefit from the eco/energy industry revival.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8359558.post-3140843028806115492009-10-31T15:15:46.991-06:002009-10-31T15:15:46.991-06:00Agreed to a certain point. There have been example...Agreed to a certain point. There have been examples of governments that have pulled off major switches to alternative power sources:

Brazil has shifted to a 50%-plus sugar cane ethanol mode. It took over 30 years and has been quite expensive, but they are there now. The cost in terms of clear cutting and burning its tropical forests has been high, as they contribute significantly to global warming trends.

Denmark went through a similar transition in the last oil embargo in 1973. Forced to pursue other energy sources, they mounted a decade’s long effort in alternative energy, esp. wind power. They put in significant conservation policies. Denmark also adopted systems that micro-utilizes heat produced by local industry to heat near-by communities via steam tunnels. This all cost billions, but it has in fact produced a very efficient nation.Richard Wottrichhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12793905861998016619noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8359558.post-90816036817792492662009-10-31T13:12:35.261-06:002009-10-31T13:12:35.261-06:00NG and clean coal seem to mean that
energy prices ...NG and clean coal seem to mean that
energy prices will remain stable for several decades for heating and
for power generation anyway. If so
then the public investment in green
energy may be at risk strictly for
economic reasons. Governments have
a poor track record for risk management, seems like a slow go approach is indicated by these new
energy supplies.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8359558.post-71784947666161174052009-10-15T02:29:24.240-06:002009-10-15T02:29:24.240-06:00Thanks for clearing that up for me!Thanks for clearing that up for me!Möbiushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02398223204337816826noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8359558.post-72977291534250126102009-09-06T05:29:34.237-06:002009-09-06T05:29:34.237-06:00Yes - and more power lines, gas stations, solar fa...Yes - and more power lines, gas stations, solar farms and on and on...Richard Wottrichhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12793905861998016619noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8359558.post-80686012892881344392009-09-06T05:01:33.802-06:002009-09-06T05:01:33.802-06:00more windmills!!!more windmills!!!Tim Dorseyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07529894076726365379noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8359558.post-3461277965104284942009-07-30T04:18:56.607-06:002009-07-30T04:18:56.607-06:00Yes - RLWYes - RLWRichard Wottrichhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12793905861998016619noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8359558.post-33620150179308802872009-07-30T04:18:41.665-06:002009-07-30T04:18:41.665-06:00Isn't the picture on this story of Chinese sol...Isn't the picture on this story of Chinese solar panels?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8359558.post-72575174745363640652009-07-30T04:17:28.831-06:002009-07-30T04:17:28.831-06:00The technology and safety issues involved are no m...The technology and safety issues involved are no more dangerous than handling gasoline.
